Move the 8.5- by 17.1- by 15.8-inch (HWD) printer into place, remove the packing materials, and connect the cables. Setting up the 4500 on a network is standard fare. With the exception of installation and speed results, which can vary depending on how a printer's connected, my comments in this review should apply to both printers. According to HP, the two printers are identical, except that the wireless version includes WiFi instead of an Ethernet connector. Not so incidentally, note that HP also sells a wireless variation, the HP Officejet 4500 Wireless All-in-One ($129.99 direct, N/R). But if you don't print more than about 20 pages per day-including copies and incoming faxes-the 100 pages is enough so you won't have to reload paper more than about once a week. The 100 sheet input tray is a bit meager if you're thinking of sharing it in even the smallest office. The 4500's paper capacity is the key issue that limits it to light-duty use. One particularly welcome touch for office use is a 20-page automatic document feeder (ADF) for handling multi-page documents as well as legal-size pages, which are too big to fit on the printer's flatbed. It can also scan to e-mail easily, using the e-mail program on your PC to create a message and adding the scanned document as an attachment. The 4500 can print, scan, and fax over a network, and work as a standalone copier or fax machine.
